Green Alaska: Dreams from the Far Coast by Nancy Lord,
In 1899, railroad tycoon Edward Harriman assembled a company of exceptional characters including John Burroughs, John Muir, Edward Curtis, William Dall, George Bird Grinnell, alaska railroad and Louis Agassiz Fuertes. Alaska Railroad - The Alaska Railroad is a Class II railroad that extends from Seward, in the south of the state of Alaska, in the United States, to Fairbanks, in the interior of that state. It carries both freight and passengers between those two cities and to many destinations between them, including Denali National Park.

Tanana Valley Railroad - The Tanana Valley Railroad was a narrow-gauge railroad that operated in the Tanana Valley of Alaska from 1905 to about 1917, when it was purchased by the government and began to be converted to standard gauge. The TVRR originated as the Tanana Mines Railway in 1905 and was renamed the Tanana Valley Railroad in 1907.

Copper River and Northwestern Railway - The Copper River and Northwestern Railway was a railroad built by the Kennecott Corporation between 1907 and 1911 to take copper ore from Kennicott, Alaska to Cordova, Alaska, a distance of 315 km (196 miles). The railroad was built by thousands of workers, who laid tracks around glaciers, across canyons and through deep snow and avalanche areas.

White Pass and Yukon Route - The White Pass and Yukon Route (WP&Y, WP&YR) is a narrow gauge railroad linking the port of Skagway, Alaska with Whitehorse, the capital of Canada's Yukon Territory. An isolated system, it has no connection to any other railroad.
